Miss Arkansas International™ 2018

Skyler Kinley - 1st Runner-Up

If you could teach a class in school, what would it be?
Being Miss Arkansas International gives me the opportunity to be an ambassador for my state. My year of service is providing aid to others and supporting my cause for adoption awareness; while hospitality is the willingness, the want to help and the action that follows without having to be asked. I truly believe it depends on your heart and your reasoning behind why you are serving to determine how you show your hospitality.

Name one of your strengths and one of your weaknesses
All successful women have a story. One that motivates us to do everything we can to make a difference. We use our “bumps in the road” as a learning experience to grow and accelerate our improvement. “Strong women aren’t simply born. We are forged through the challenge of life.” We have strength, vision, determination and purpose. My Mom is one of these women. She inspires me and has taught me to be a Godly woman.

What qualities do you feel a titleholder should possess?
Learning to set necessary boundaries is a healthy way to live. Knowing when to say “no” is important not only as a woman but as a firm believer in Gods appointed timing. When given an opportunity I remind myself that the Lord continuously orders my steps and gives me discernment. Saying “no” does not imply that one is rude, ungrateful, selfish or unkind it simply proves that one is unique, valuable and important.

What makeup item could you not live without and why?
I would want an extra hour in the morning before all the hustle and bustle of the day to read and spend time with the Lord. There is something so special and beautiful about starting the day by giving all my problems, insecurities and worries over to Him. Whereas, spending time at the end of the day when I feel tired and less than 100% doesn’t feel like I am completely focusing on my prayers.

Do you feel that beauty pageants help or hurt how society views women?
I was continuously amazed by my parent’s obedience to the Lord and their decision to adopt my brother and me. They turned our path from darkness to promising light and provided us a life that was safe and secure. International adoption is a dream I set for myself since I was old enough to understand what it meant to be adopted. I want to continue the family legacy of providing a safe home to children.
