Miss Illinois International™ 2019

Aryssa Joel - 3rd Runner-Up

What is the First thing you notice about a person?
“Skills For Living” was a very practical, fun class that was informal compared to a traditional educational classroom. We learned to cook, sew, and the essentials of healthy living. I would love to teach this class because it will allow me to create a less formal relationship with students while at the same time providing basic insight into life skills.

What goals do you have for the new 5 years?
My strength is my ability to communicate. My interpersonal skills allow me to relate to any one at any level and find common ground. This puts me in a position of influence as I can hold people’s attention so they listen to my message. A weakness is the desire to strive for perfection which can sometimes cause delays in getting tasks done so I always remind myself that life is not always perfect.

What is the first thing you would do if you win the lottery?
Being relatable. A titleholder gains a platform that is so expansive, it crosses boundaries of language, culture and geography. Being relatable makes you accessible to everyone you meet and allows you to capture the hearts of people across all walks of life. If you are relatable, sharing the message of your platform will be more receptive to your audience.

What is the most useless you have ever purchased?
My Rys Gloss. I collaborated with a makeup company that allowed me to design my own custom lip gloss. It smells like vanilla cappuccino and has extra moisture. I love the color which is dark peachy color the extra moisture is extremely appreciated because as a flight attendant I am in the air all the time as well as in different states with different temperatures.

What is the best way to spend a rainy afternoon?
I think the perception of beauty pageants as ‘just beautiful women’ has changed significantly over the years. Women in pageants are now perceived as empowered, ambitious, intelligent, self-driven, goal oriented. They hold a prominent place in society and make a difference as they all champion a platform with a message to make a difference.
