Miss Maryland International™ 2019

Aynia Dorsey

What is the First thing you notice about a person?
The class I would teach is ceramics. Ceramics was one of my favorite classes in high school, because not only does it give you a medium to creatively express yourself, but it also provides you with an opportunity to learn about art from various cultures. Acquiring this type of knowledge is important, because it can foster an appreciation for the lived experiences of others.

What goals do you have for the new 5 years?
My strength would also have to be one of my weaknesses. I have a tendency to pour into others more than I pour into myself. On the one hand I am truly able to make some type of difference, no matter how small, in the lives of the people that I come into contact with. At the same time, I always have to be mindful to take a little time for self-care and

What is the first thing you would do if you win the lottery?
A titleholder should demonstrate servant leadership. Servant leadership is a philosophy where serving others is at the forefront, instead of serving for personal gain. Being a titleholder requires that we act in good stewardship towards our fellow person. As titleholders, we cannot ask others to do the work, if we ourselves are not demonstrating it.

What is the most useless you have ever purchased?
The makeup item I could not live without is mascara. On a day to day basis, I tend to only put on mascara. Mascara is a quick and easy way to brighten up your eyes, and can create the illusion that you’ve spent a little more time than you actually did.

What is the best way to spend a rainy afternoon?
I believe beauty pageants help the way society views women. Currently, pageants are a platform to show that woman can not only be beautiful, but they can be change agents, entrepreneurs, medical professionals, lawyers, literally anything, while still having a family. Women of today are not just confined to the home, we have a plethora of routes to take in society, and beauty pageants display that on a central stage.
