Miss North Carolina International™ 2019

Lexi Schafran

If you could teach a class in school, what would it be?
The lack of education & awareness of knowing the signs and symptoms and where to get help for mental illness is a national issue. I have had the pleasure of speaking to classrooms about positive, safe coping strategies regarding our mental health. I would teach a class that highlights how students can handle everyday emotions in situations they may encounter. Students would take away how important it is to make their mental wellness a priority!

Name one of your strengths and one of your weaknesses
A strength that I possess is versatility. I am easily able to adapt to new people and situations very quickly. I am always on my toes, no matter the task at hand. One weakness I work on daily is being my own toughest critic. As a competitive athlete, Iíve always told myself what I could improve on, no matter how successful the outcome. Iím working on enjoying all my accomplishments big and small!

What qualities do you feel a titleholder should possess?
I feel a titleholder should be gracious, approachable, and tenacious. At appearances and events, she should be approachable, in order for people to easily communicate and make connections. Regarding her platforms and passions, a titleholder should constantly be working hard toward her goals and aspirations. Undoubtedly, she should be a strong role model, modeling kindness and compassion for everyone she encounters!

What makeup item could you not live without and why?
I could not live without my setting spray! Being a titleholder and likely having long days, it's convenient to have my setting spray handy to set all of my makeup in place! Itís the best thing to come home after a full day and all my makeup is still in tact. My favorite setting spray is All Nighter Long-Lasting by Urban Decay.

Do you feel that beauty pageants help or hurt how society views women?
Being a first time pageant participant in my 20s, Iíve admired the International System for the high standards and integrity it brings to society, while honoring passionate and hardworking women. The International System gave me the opportunity to share my own story to as many people possible. My mission is to continually use my voice to spread my lifelong platform of mental health awareness and showcase how pageantry can be used in a positive manner.
