Miss Texas International™ 2019

Briana Daughtry - 2nd Runner-Up

If you could teach a class in school, what would it be?
With a minor in literary studies I believe literature is an intensely personal and communal experience. It offers not only a chance to enlighten a person, but it also gives the chance to broaden one’s perspectives. I would teach literature because I believe to write you have to read, and to truly read, you think, castigate, doubt, wonder, and stand inspired by words on the page.

Name one of your strengths and one of your weaknesses
I am a great listener. God gave us two ears and one mouth for a reason, so we can listen twice as hard as we speak. When I am being attentive, I am actively making efforts to understand others. I am not embarrassed to say that I have no sense of cardinal direction. Though I may get easily lost, I am constantly strengthening my weakness through good old-fashioned exploration.

What qualities do you feel a titleholder should possess?
Conviction is a rare trait that many confuse with confidence. If your focus is conviction, confidence becomes the by-product. Confidence can be fabricated, but conviction is a quiet, internal strength with no need to prove anything to anyone because the only validation that matters is your own. Conviction in a titleholder is a deep, armed sense of purpose that naturally results in good deeds and strong character.

What makeup item could you not live without and why?
I would be completely unprepared for the day without my Elta MD tinted SPF. Skin cancer prevention is very important to me so making conscious changes in my makeup routine that not only protected my skin from UV exposure, but helped improve the quality of my skin was a great way I could show my skin love. Even my lip balm has SPF because yes, even your lips can become sunburned.

Do you feel that beauty pageants help or hurt how society views women?
It all depends on who you ask because experiences are relative to the individual. In Texas pageants are just as idolized as football. For other groups pageants may not hold such a high importance. The beauty in controversy is the great value in recognizing different perspectives. Being mindful and compassionate of others perspective is more important than simply arguing over who’s right or wrong.
