Miss Africa International™ 2019

Ngozi Ashibuogwu

What is the First thing you notice about a person?
Daily I meet girls and women who struggle with formulating their own identity because they donít see their stories and voices reflected in the curriculum. So I would teach Women Studies because it captures the voices of women who are marginalized but not silenced and down but not defeated. Itís through the narratives of others girls and women will discover their own intrinsic skill, talent, and ability thus becoming a conduit for transformational change in society.

What goals do you have for the new 5 years?
I have a servantís heart. While working in television news I was exposed to horrific stories. I had to do something, so I left and pursued my purpose. Fast-forward three years I work as a domestic violence and sexual assault therapist going above and beyond for my clients. Itís a privilege and honor to serve them. Sometimes itís my weakness because healing is slow and I wish I could instantly take their pain away.

What is the first thing you would do if you win the lottery?
A titleholder should be compassionate because the root meaning of this word is the secret to societal transformational change. The prefix ďcomĒ means together and the Latin meaning for ďpassionĒ is suffering. Compassion allows one to hold the light of hope while co-journeying with another individual experiencing emotional pain regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, and religion. Itís the thread that tightly weaves together our hearts while resurrecting broken souls so they thrive again.

What is the most useless you have ever purchased?
Smiling changes the atmosphere because smiling at anyone is the beginning of love. So naturally the makeup I cannot live without is lipstick. Lipstick comes in many colors that reflect compassion, hope, strength, and grace that are deposited inside of me. I wear lipstick, which is every day because I always want my soul to smile through my heart and my heart to smile though my eyes, so I may sprinkle hope, and strength to sad hearts.

What is the best way to spend a rainy afternoon?
Women today are groundbreaking, revolutionary, change agents who move in the direction of love, freedom, courage and heart, which I believe beauty pageants play a pivotal role in the planting, cultivating, and growing of these characteristics in women in society. Beauty pageants have always been on the cutting-edge of redefining womanhood. More importantly beauty pageants provide a platform for all contestants to bring greater awareness to causes that impact mankind setting off a catalyst effect.
